Skills results.. (Plus added extra awesome)

I feel proud of myself.

I found out last night that I passed all the derby stuffs! I hit 28.5 laps so passed 27/5 and I actually on my first go passed the new rules test which I am incredibly shocked at! I knew there were 4-5 questions which I used guesswork for but still.. I didn’t get many wrong!

So I decided to treat myself.

I started looking for a new Hibiscus hair clip, I stumbled across something just simply awesome and it makes my derby name change feel like fate. I genuinely did not know this existed. But I stumbled on and bought this as a treat to myself for doing good.

An already in existence, Lilo & Stitch patch which contains my new derby name. Chuffed. AWESOME! YAY!

Minimum skills and updates. Pt 2.

Finished part 2 of minimum skills last night, including 27 in 5!

Feeling positive, whilst I know I need to work on the finer parts of hip and shoulder checks (stronger positional blocker than a hitting blocker which I need to work on!) and that my hip makes it difficult with slow stepping, I feel I did well! And I managed to hit 28.5 laps which to say I haven’t undertaken 27 for a while and that I have let my endurance/stamina/strength fitness slip… I think is still really good! Partnered with a positive supporting skater throughout this experience which has really helped so big thanks to Mika! One of the best things so far about joining the Harlots has been the genuine amount of support and positivity I have been given! Godamn awesome people.

Not sure on rules test yet but I still keep going on the RDTOM app from time to time just to keep reminding myself and my brain!

Otherwise… Dresses. Screw dresses. After winning and paying for a dress on eBay for a very low price, I got a message the next day to say she had forgotten that she’d listed this on eBay and had sold elsewhere. ARGJDNFIENTKHMH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY!!! Why is it so difficult!? I have received one which is just really not as described and will be going charity shop. Won one which is now not mine. With work, general life and house renovations I don’t get time to go to decent physical stores. Also I am an odd sizing which sucks. Not to mention the anxiety I experience going places like shops on my own.. last time I ran out (well walked very quickly) of TK MAXX in fear.

So … That is all so far! Woke up this morning feeling a bit unwell and slept like poop so today will be spent mainly on the sofa with the dogs (walk later if weather improves as Oakley is scared of the rain) possibly watching LRG Anarchy streaming!

Minimum skills. And other updates.

Yes! New league, revised rule set and exciting times!

I moved leagues just in time to be around for the scheduled league-wide minimum skills tests. I like the fact that the minimum skills tests and checks are league wide, this way everyone is together and it is a positive way of reinforcing the minimum skills regardless of which level you skate at.

I undertook my first night of mins on Tuesday, along with the rules test. I have yet to find out if I passed the rules test, I did wear my lucky jammer pants for extra luck and revised really hard as it took me 3-4 tries to pass last time I took a rules test! There were 3-4 rules questions I was a little unsure on and just hoped for the best so I know there are definitely crosses instead of ticks, but I am hoping my derby knowledge was sufficient!! Friday night is the second night of mins testing, I feel happy after Tuesday but I am hoping I have no hiccups on track! I managed to pull my stomach, side and upper arm carrying a box at work on Wednesday so I have been trying to relax and soothe the aches and pains since!

It has felt good going back to basics and revising these skills, especially as it has given me the opportunity to observe others around me and see the various ways in which they find it best/easiest to undertake a skill.

I am still nervous about 27 in 5. I previously used to get 29-28 laps, but I have still only really just got over being poorly and I haven’t done any fitness work outside of derby because of this! Hopefully I will be able to keep my strides strong, skate the diamond, keep my crossovers up and hit 27. I am more nervous about this than usual, I think this is because it will be my first time skating this trial infront of new people. I have tried in the last few months to not focus on what others may be thinking of me or judging me and whilst I know that practice is a safe place, I am still bricking it.

I am also excited as I will be attending a rather exciting event with the league, a special Harlots evening which requires full on black tie attire! Eeeeee!! I am excited at the idea of dressing up in beautiful dresses and looking ladylike (for once) as well as the opportunity to get to know people outside of practice. I am honoured to have so far been welcomed with open arms with ladies being just so genuinely lovely and relaxed! I have also bought too many dresses. I need to sell stuff. STAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHF!!

Otherwise life is just life. Work is the norm. House is the norm. Oakley is somewhat norm..!
